Dominance Reenements of the Smirnov Two-sample Test

چکیده
We prove the following conjecture of Narayana: there are no nontrivial dominance reene-ments of the Smirnov two-sample test if and only if the two sample sizes are relatively prime. We also count the number of natural signiicance levels of the Smirnov two-sample test in terms of the sample sizes and relate this to the Narayana conjecture. In particular, Smirnov tests with relatively prime sample sizes turn out to have many more natural signiicance levels than do Smirnov tests whose sample sizes are not relatively prime (for example, equal sample sizes).

متن کاملA Kolmogorov-Smirnov Based Test for Comparing the Predictive Accuracy of Two Sets of Forecasts
This paper introduces a complement statistical test for distinguishing between the predictive accuracy of two sets of forecasts. We propose a non-parametric test founded upon the principles of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test, referred to as the KS Predictive Accuracy (KSPA) test. The KSPA test is able to serve two distinct purposes. Initially, the test seeks to determine whether there exists a...

Abstract: This paper deals with nonparametric inference for second order stochastic dominance of two random variables. If their distribution functions are unknown they have to be inferred from observed realizations. Thus, any results on stochastic dominance are in uenced by sampling errors. We establish two methods to take the sampling error into account. The rst one is based on the asymptotic ...
متن کاملThe signed Kolmogorov-Smirnov test: why it should not be used
The two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test is often used to decide whether two random samples have the same statistical distribution. A popular modification of the KS test is to use a signed version of the KS statistic to infer whether the values of one sample are statistically larger than the values of the other. The underlying hypotheses of the KS test are intrinsically incompatible with thi...
متن کاملA Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for the molecular clock based on Bayesian ensembles of phylogenies
Divergence date estimates are central to understand evolutionary processes and depend, in the case of molecular phylogenies, on tests of molecular clocks. Here we propose two non-parametric tests of strict and relaxed molecular clocks built upon a framework that uses the empirical cumulative distribution (ECD) of branch lengths obtained from an ensemble of Bayesian trees and well known non-para...
